InPaint Magazine Features Mark DeFrancesco!
InPaint Magazine is a go-to for craftsmen who are serious about their commitment to the painting industry. In a recent interview and feature, Mark DeFrancesco shared his expertise on drywall repair. The article is called PRO PICKS The art of the patch: 4 pros share their go-to choices for drywall repair.
Mark talks about his favorite products and techniques for the best results. The MDF team uses Sheetrock Brand Durabond 45 Joint Compound for general repairs. For more specific issues, they use more targeted products. For something like spider cracks, Durabond 45 will fill in the cracks, followed by Goof Off Goodbye Cracks. The payoff for this method is a fix that lasts longer, and paint adheres to better. For a sizable repair, Mark advises mixing the Durabond 45 with hot water and applying it like a skim coat. To prep for painting, our employees stick to either Sherwin Williams White Pigmented Shellac Primer or Zinsser B-I-N Shellac-Based Primer. "They both work really well. Shellac dries quicker and hides bleed-through," Mark explains. For a small repair, using the DAP Wall Repair Patch kit will be the best product. It comes with a 6" mesh square that adheres well to the drywall. When it comes to sanding walls and ceilings, he recommends Festool ETS 150 and DTS 400.
